Shower waterproofing in progress

The work

What the waterproofing work covers.

The scope depends on the shower layout, the surfaces already in place, and whether this is a new installation or a repair.

The approach is chosen for your project, including the existing surfaces, layout, and planned tile work.

Plumbing repairs, structural work, and mold remediation are discussed separately if needed.

  1. 01

    Shower bases and drain connections

Preparation and waterproofing of the shower base, with attention to drainage and the connection between the base, walls, and drain.

  2. 02

    Shower walls and wet areas

Waterproofing behind tile where surfaces are exposed to water, with the extent of coverage planned for the space.

  3. 03

    Corners, joints, and built-in features

Details around corners, seams, curbs, niches, and benches where they are part of the project. These connections matter as much as the larger surfaces.

  4. 04

    Repairs involving existing waterproofing

Assessment of the affected area and the access needed for a reliable repair. The condition underneath may only become clear after tile is removed.

An existing shower

Does a leaking shower need to be rebuilt?

Not every moisture problem calls for a full shower replacement. First, the source needs to be understood: water may be escaping through the shower assembly or coming from a plumbing connection.

A focused repair may be possible when the surrounding installation is sound and the waterproofing can be connected reliably. If a larger area needs to be opened, the reasons and options are explained before additional work is agreed.

New grout or surface sealer does not repair a failed waterproofing layer beneath the tile.

What affects the cost and timeline?

Waterproofing an open shower is different from repairing one that is already tiled. The estimate depends on access, preparation, and how much of the surrounding installation needs to be restored.

  1. 01

    Existing condition

Tile removal, damaged surfaces, and previous repairs affect the preparation needed. Hidden damage may change the scope once the area is opened.

  2. 02

    Size and details

Shower dimensions, drain connections, corners, niches, and benches affect the amount of work.

  3. 03

    Work after waterproofing

The estimate should make clear which preparation, waterproofing, and tile work is included, along with any work that needs a separate specialist.

  4. 04

    Time before use

Drying, curing, checks, and tile installation all affect the schedule. Completion of the waterproofing stage does not mean the shower is ready to use.

At your home

What happens after you get in touch.

  1. 01

    Describe the project

Book a free onsite estimate or send a request. Mention whether the shower is new, open for renovation, or already tiled. For an existing problem, describe where and when moisture appears. Photos can be sent by text or email.

  2. 02

    Review the condition and scope

Max and the team review the accessible areas and explain the proposed work, any uncertainties, and what may need to be opened before the full condition is known.

  3. 03

    Prepare and waterproof

Nearby surfaces are protected before the agreed work begins. If preparation reveals a problem that changes the scope, the options are discussed with you before proceeding.

  4. 04

    Complete the agreed next stage

Tile installation and finishing follow the agreed scope. The team explains when the area can be used and what care it needs.

Why Plito Tile

Why choose Plito Tile for the work beneath your tile?

  1. 01

Care for the rest of your home

Nearby surfaces are protected, the work area is kept organized, and cleanup is part of the job.

  2. 02

    Options explained before extra work

If opening the area reveals a wider problem, you get an explanation of what was found and the available options before additional work is agreed.

  3. 03

    Help coordinating the next step

Established supplier and contractor contacts can help when the project needs additional materials or another trade. Those needs are discussed as part of the plan.

“Maxim and Plito Tile were fantastic. They did the job faster than they originally quoted and their quality of work is excellent. They adapted to any problems that came up and always made sure I was happy with the tile before moving on to the next stage. Would definitely hire them again!”

Before you call

Shower waterproofing questions.

Tile and grout are the finished surface, not a complete waterproofing system. A tiled shower needs a suitable waterproofing assembly beneath or behind the tile, with the connections between surfaces properly addressed.
